Oversized and (or) heavy cargo is a cargo whose weight and overall parameters, together with the vehicle, exceed the parameters established by the regulatory legal acts of the Russian Federation and other countries through the territories of which the transportation route passes, so in particular for the Russian Federation these parameters are established by clause 23.5 of the SDA of the Russian Federation, and so the same annexes 1-4 of the rules for the carriage of goods approved by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 272, namely, the transportation of heavy and dangerous goods, the movement of a vehicle whose overall parameters with or without cargo exceed:
in width 2.55 m (2.6 m - for refrigerators and isothermal bodies),
at a height of 4 m from the surface of the carriageway,
length (including one trailer) 20 m,
or the movement of a vehicle with a load protruding beyond the rear point of the vehicle's dimensions by more than 2 m,
as well as the movement of road trains with two or more trailers,
carried out in accordance with special "rules".
The maximum allowable dimensions of the road train in length are 20.0 meters. For EU countries, the overall length of the road train, together with the transported cargo, is 16.5 meters.
